Redesigned for 2025, the Trap Chubby is my Glow-in-the-Dark Chubby Chernobyl fly pattern. Through countless hours spent during both day and night, I’ve refined these flies to be extremely effective. I drew a lot of inspiration from Mike Lawson’s Henry’s Fork Foam Stone, but made refinements to enhance the way it floats and moves on the water. You will always be able to see the Trap Chubby- they incorporate a fluorescent daytime indicator and a luminous glow tab for night time. The bodies are slender, with a long hook that comes to the very tail end of the fly so you don’t miss fish that hit it from the back. I’m confident you can take these flies and be extremely effective during any large stonefly hatch. Additionally, using a Glow in the Dark dry fly is very effective for nocturnal trout feeding on crickets, moths, and an abundance of other bugs that find their way into rivers at night. Fish the Trap Chubby just like you would a mouse, and you might be surprised by how keyed in on nocturnal insects fish can be.
The Trap Chubby is tied on premium hooks and with components designed to last, right here in Idaho. I know they are more expensive than fly shop chubbies, but they’re much more durable and provide every bit of value for the price I charge. Every fly is superglued to the shank and head cemented at multiple points so you can feed it to fish after fish.
